We know that engaging in book discussions fosters a culture of curiosity and intellectual growth, reinforcing the idea that learning is a lifelong journey enriched by the exchange of ideas and insights with others. It is our hope that through thoughtful dialogue and shared reflections on relevant literature, educators not only enhance their own practices but also contribute to a dynamic community that benefits both their students and MSU broadly.

The 360 Room at the DSL is your gateway to collaborative learning, teaching and shared experiences. Look at work created by other MSU faculty, staff and students and start thinking about how you can take that next step to better present and engage, here and remotely across a range of disciplines.

Honor your favorite bird by crafting a zine! Join us as we create zines that honor your favorite bird (I see you, chickadees!) or a bird that just makes you curious (what's up with those field sparrows?). We will provide paper, drawing materials, and magazines to cut out. No prior zine making required - we will help you create!

The digital age has brought us virtually (pun, intended) limitless access to information in the digital age. Despite this access, Latine communities continue to confront the challenges of rampant misinformation, censorship and misrepresentation—influencing how Latines are depicted in news coverage to popular culture to domestic and international policies that directly impact (and harm) our communities. Accurate Latine narratives and exposure to our histories are as important as ever. In this timely and important symposium, we address representation and free speech through the lens of Puerto Rican storytelling.

This workshop explores strategies for providing feedback that enhances student learning while helping you manage grading time. Participants will learn how to deliver intentional, elaborative feedback and how to prioritize higher-order concerns in written assignments. The session will also introduce educational technology tools and assessment strategies designed to streamline the feedback process. By the end, attendees will walk away with practical techniques to support student growth without increasing workload.

Upon completion of this learning experience, participants will be able to:


describe the role of feedback in promoting student learning
explain the benefits of providing students with intentional, elaborative feedback on multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
differentiate between higher-order and lower-order concerns in feedback on assignments
identify assessment strategies and educational technology tools that assist in time management when providing feedback.

Micah Ling, MSU Traditional Arts Program - “Clad in the Working Class: Blue-Collar Style and American Folk Music”

American folk music is often the soundtrack of labor movements—the rallying cries and songs that tell the story of workers’ struggles. This talk explores the way that blue-collar attire is used by folk and roots musicians in the United States regardless of their own labor backgrounds to show solidarity, express identity, and connect with the histories of the music.
